Upcoming Events and Programs Fellowship with Continental Breakfast served Sunday mornings at 10:30 am, service is at 11:00):
Sunday November 6th 11:00 am - Nature Conservancy - Chad Bladow will talk with us about the work of the Nature Conservancy in Indiana, and perhaps a bit about Riparian Practices. Riparian Practices relate to proper maintenance of stream banks - of particular interest to Fellowship because of Crooked Creek running across the corner of our property. Please Join Us!
Sunday November 13th - Brunch Discussion - Why have a church? - Discussion led by Annie Johnson - Join us for another in our brunch discussion series. The question, why have a church? seems pretty obvious at first glance. But studies show that many people attend church for the sense of community, not for religious reasons. Others attend for their kids, but would just as soon not be there for themselves. Some attend for the social prestige (well, probably not at CUUF). Does the church have an obligation to do more than give the members what they want? Should a church be transformative of people's lives? Should it be transformative whether that is what people want or not? Is providing a sense of community enough to earn the name "church"?
Sunday November 20th, 11:00 am - Thanksgiving Seder - This service is patterned on the traditional Jewish Passover Seder, but with a decidedly Unitarian Universalist twist. It celebrates freedom from bondage in many contexts. Please bring a traditional Thanksgiving dish to share for the meal that is a part of the service. This is an intergenerational program; any children present will participate with us, instead of going to class.
Sunday November 27th - Brunch Discussion - What should the role of government be in the economy? Most of us would probably agree that the government needs to regulate the banks to prevent severe recessions and depressions. Should the government set up a WPA or CETA type of program to help the unemployed? Should the government support the railroads? The Post Office? Should local control of school finances be reworked for so that schools in different communities have similar financial support per student? What other things do you think government should or should not do? Topic may be changed at the discretion of the discussion leader or the attendees.
