Adult Religious Education

To some extent our regular Sunday morning meeting serves as adult RE. However in the summer of 2007, recognizing that we needed to have a series of programs about growth, which we called "The Membership Journey", we met over the summer to identify some of the things we need to do, the attitudes we need to change, the groups we wanted to reach out to, and the things we needed to do to accomplish that outreach.

Spirit of Life

This past summer, recognizing some of the fine programs and workshops that the UUA has to offer, we enjoyed the UUA Spirit of Life workshops, nine in total, based around the lyrics of that favorite UU song, Spirit of Life.

Here are the Lyrics to the song:

Spirit of Life

Come unto me

Sing in my heart

All the stirrings of compassion

Blow in the wind

Rise in the sea

Move in the hand

Giving life the shape of justice

Roots hold me close

Wings set me free

Spirit of life

Come to me

Come to me

The nine workshop title are:

  1. Spirit of Life - Exploring Spirituality for Unitarian Universalists
  2. Sing in my Heart - Celebrations and Rituals
  3. The Stirrings of Compassion - Caring for One Another
  4. Blow in the Wind, Rise in the Sea - Nature and Spirit
  5. Move in the Hand - Living our Spirituality in our Day-to-Day Lives
  6. Giving Life the Shape of Justice - Loving your Neighbor and Yourself
  7. Roots hold me close - Tradition, Teachers and Spiritual Formation
  8. Wings set me Free - Hopes, Dreams and Expanding Vision
  9. Come To Us - Closing and Continuing On

Note that in addition to the links for each chapter, there are links at the bottom to download the entire document in word format (.doc files).  If you decide to print the whole thing (it is long) please turn on page numbering, as it downloads without page numbers..

Build Your Own Theology

We are also considering doing the UUA program Building Your Own Theology, or perhaps the UUA program on Racism for this coming summer's program series. The book 1 workshops from Building Your Own Theology are:

  • Doing Theology - A Liberal Religious Model
  • Your Religious Odyssey - Autobiography with a Spiritual Twist
  • Varieties of Liberal Religious Experience - Unitarian Universalist and the Buring Bush
  • Human Nature - Some Self Understanding
  • Ultimate Reality - Creating an Honest God
  • History - An Honest Look Back
  • Ethis as Unenforceable obligation - The Improtance of Being Good for Nothing
  • We are the Meaning Makers
  • So What? Imperatives of My Theology
  • Wrapping it Up - A Credo
There is a copy of the book 1 curriculum in the Fellowship Library.
